Easy-peasy Cranberry sauce

Why would anybody buy that hideous stuff in can when you can make a delicious sauce yourself?

Today I amended my standard recipe a little but it is still easy-peasy with just a few ingredients.

2 bags of fresh cranberries (I pick through them to eliminate any mushy ones)
Zest and juice of an orange
1 peeled and chopped juicy pear
2 sticks of Cinnamon
3/4 cup of fine sugar

Combine all ingredient in pot and bring to slow simmer.

Simmer for about 25 mins or until 3/4 of cranberries have popped. If mixture gets to thick you can add a bit of water orange juice.
Serve warm or let cool and enjoy :-)

So will you still buy the canned stuff?

To keep or not to keep?

Recently scored these Cole Haan booties online for 50% off.

They arrived yesterday and I just tried them on - maybe a snitch tight in the toe area and feel a bit stiff in ankle area but maybe that can be fixed with leather softening spray. Ordered refill of that on Amazon already.

Really like those booties bc the black-gold metallic look is nothing that I have in my closet at the current time. Think they could get away as a great 'neutral' as they would work with black, brown, blue, green, and even purple. So bottom line they may just be a perfect fit for my many coloured jeans in my closet (I may have a problem with coloured jeans like in way too many ;-)).

So what do you think - should I risk and keep them although they need breaking in?

Guilty pleasure

Please forgive me for an odd post (well, maybe all my post are odd ;-)).

I'm not having a great time and today was a day with particularly bad news so I may just have a big old spoonful of guilty pleasure that I indulge in since going to university back in EU many moons ago.

Here it is in all it's glory

I should add that this size lasts me a few months.

Do you have a guilty pleasure?

Monday... Seasonal Nails

I like to play with nail polish... A lot like in having an insane collection and every time I go to beauty store I sure buy another colour ( hey, it is a small investment to make you feel good).

I almost always do my nails myself - just so used to it as back in EU we did not have many studios and now it saves me some money that I can spend on other things.

Being in a somewhat conservative work environment I typically try to tone it down and go for an accent nail only.

Without intention I recently painted my nails kinda seasonal...

Used Orly in Temptress and China Glaze 1127 Argo. Got both on clearance for a few dollars if I recall correctly. Was very pleased with staying power of both - full week and almost no chips (even washed dishes w/o gloves a few times). Always use base and top coat though.

What are your favs?

Coral, Blue & Neutral

Coral, Blue & Neutral

Coral, Blue & Neutral by dgsinny featuring Topshop

Bought this coat a few weeks ago and absolutely love the oversized fit. Granted I'm on taller side so it does not overwhelm me.

So far I always combined it with skinnier pants or pencil skirts IRL... Must try if I can pull it off with boyfriend jean and maybe heels for different look.

Coral is so versatile & combines well with so many different colours - sometimes the shade of a colour turns it almost into neutral.

Made collage to see how it would work with blue and neutral mixed prints - I like it and must go closet diving to create something similar.

Sadly no Brunch for me this weekend... But if I had time that would be how I'd like to dress. Comfy but still stylish.

Do you love to brunch?

Pastels in winter - yes!

Pastels in winter - yes!

Pastels in winter - yes! by dgsinny

Never understood why some people would not wear pastels in winter.  Don't get me wrong I also like the dark autumn/winter shades but pastels often complements so nicely a paler complexion.
I ordered some minty pieces online during Black Friday  and can't wait to work them into my wardrobe.

Random tidbits:

- Had fabulous Thanksgiving dinner at friends' house
- Made cranberry sauce from scratch - so easy, fast & tasty... Why buy canned?
- Think my blondies and brownies did pass taste test as well :-)
- Thought I was haunted by turkey I ate when three crossed the road in random spot when I drove home... Cannot recall ever seeing free-roaming turkeys in NJ ( well, at least not where I live)... So you can imagine my surprise
- Did not leave house on Friday but endulged in online-shopping but that is another story

Theme Wednesday - Owls

Theme Wednesday - Owls

Theme Wednesday - Owls by dgsinny featuring leopard print flat shoes

As previously mentioned I cannot help myself but I have a thing for owls. Think depending on your shoe choice the look can be quite different.

... And the dip-dyed leather jacket is calling my name!

Do you have any whimsical animal addiction that you cannot resist?

Beauty Monday - My first Birchbox

My friend Shani told me about Birchbox - an easy and cheap way to try new higher end products without major commitment.

So few weeks ago I decided to sign up and today my first box arrived. Cute to look at?!

Here's brief summary of what I got:

Really pleased with this month content!

The eyeliner is easy to apply and true black and seems to have staying power.

Did swatch of highlighter and am really pleased how colour looks on my skin tone.

Hair care samples are not my favourite but they seem to be generous size to use for one go.

Perfume smells nice - not my typical pick so perfect to go out of my comfort zone.

Plan to use the body cream as a hand moisturiser as I really love the scent and it is too small for full body application but on my hands it may last me a while.

Chocolate will be gifted as I have a friend who loves that flavour.

My November Birchbox did not disappoint and was well worth the money.
